Faucets, toilets and shower heads were among the items reportedly bought by a company that was found to be selling a fake product that can make customers cough up more than they pay for.
In a statement to Reuters, the company, Mobi Inc, said it was taking the matter “very seriously” and would “fully cooperate with any investigation into this matter.”
“Our employees have reported significant problems with our products and we will work with all our customers and vendors to resolve this issue as soon as possible,” the statement said.
Mobi, which sells products for use with toilets, showers and sinks, did not provide any details on how many customers had been affected by the problem.
It was not immediately clear how many of the more than 40,000 customers affected by an issue with a counterfeit product were paying for it or how many had not yet been paid.
It is unclear whether the issue could be traced to a single batch of counterfeit goods, or whether it had been in the same supply chain.
A separate probe into the fake products has led to the arrest of a suspected distributor, who has been charged with fraud.
