An Israeli film director who says he is “not anti-Israeli” and is “pro-peace” says he hopes “movies of Palestine” will “bring the people of Palestine together” as the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians intensifies.
In a video posted to his Facebook page on Tuesday, Palestinian film director Mohammed al-Arouri said he hoped his films, which are based on Palestinian experiences of life under Israeli occupation, would draw attention to the Palestinian cause and help change perceptions in the world about Israel’s policies towards Palestinians.
“I am a humanist, and I want to make films that challenge the world.
And I want films to change the world,” al-Abrouri told Al Jazeera, saying his films are not anti-Semitic.”
They are anti-Zionist.
They are anti and they are proud of it.
I want my films to be about peace and love.
I think it’s the only way.”
Al-Abraouri, whose latest film, ‘Moses’, opens on Friday, said he was inspired by Palestinian activist Muhammad Al-Najjar and Israeli filmmaker Yoav Mordechai.
He said he has no intention of censoring his films because of the nature of the Israeli occupation.
“The Israeli occupation is an Israeli crime.
It’s a crime against humanity, a crime in the name of peace, and it’s a violation of human rights.
It is a crime that Israel is responsible for.
And it’s an act of war,” he said.
He added that he believes “Israel has committed war crimes” during its campaign to prevent Palestinian refugees from entering Israel.
“It’s a war against humanity,” he added.’
I’m a Palestinian who has been here for 30 years’Al-Araouiri, who lives in the West Bank, said the films he made for “Israel” are a response to a “moral vacuum” in the Middle East and are part of an “international movement” to address the problem.
“This movement is a struggle, and for the sake of peace and justice, I want it to be a movement to create a Palestinian society,” he told Al-Jazeera.
“So I want movies of Palestine to be part of that movement,” he explained.
“My films are anti, and that is the main reason I am not anti or anti-Arab.
I’m a human who has lived here for decades and I have seen how the Arab countries are suffering and how Israel is causing more pain and suffering.”
When I saw the images of [the Israeli army] demolishing houses, I was appalled.
I thought to myself, ‘Oh my God, what are they doing?
This is war, this is murder, this has to stop’.
“The Israeli government has said that some Palestinians have tried to destroy Palestinian homes during recent military operations.
Al-Mashal, a Palestinian activist who has worked for several years to combat Israeli occupation and settler expansion in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip, said Al-Arani’s films “are a warning against all of this violence”.”
I think this is a message that needs to be sent to the world that Palestine is not an enemy,” he warned.”
You need to be prepared to face the truth.
“The conflict between the two sides in the Occupied Palestinian Territories (OPT) is often seen as a proxy war between the Israelis and Palestinians.
The two sides are locked in a three-decade conflict over the disputed land of Jerusalem, which was captured by Israel in 1967.
The Palestinians want east Jerusalem as the capital of their future state, while the Israelis want the holy city as the seat of the nation.
Israel seized the West Jerusalem area in a 1967 war, while Palestinians want it as the heart of a future independent state in the east of the city.
The conflict, which has left millions of Palestinians homeless and led to more than 3,500 deaths, has forced more than 10 million Palestinians from their homes and forced millions more to flee their homes.
Israel has been criticized for the systematic targeting of Palestinian civilians and civilian infrastructure, including schools, hospitals, water, power, and sewage facilities, in its campaign against the Palestinians.
